Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Management Program Phase II (COREMAP II), Selayar RegencyProject Management Unit Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Management Program Phase II (Coremap II) Kabupaten Selayar

The Project Management Unit (PMU) Consultancy for the Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Management Program Phase II (COREMAP II) in Selayar Regency supported Indonesia’s efforts to protect and sustainably manage coral reef ecosystems while improving the livelihoods of coastal communities.

COREMAP II was implemented by the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, with support from the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Selayar was one of the key implementation areas in eastern Indonesia, where the programme combined coral reef conservation with community empowerment and stronger local institutions.

The Selayar PMU consultancy provided project management and implementation support, including programme coordination, planning, monitoring, institutional strengthening, and assistance for community-based marine resource management. The programme also supported the development of local coral reef management plans, marine protected areas, community awareness, surveillance, and alternative livelihood initiatives.

COREMAP II was implemented in 52 coastal villages in Selayar and helped strengthen community participation in marine conservation. The programme contributed to the establishment of village-level marine protected areas and broader district conservation initiatives, while coral reef monitoring indicated improvements in live coral cover during the implementation period.

Through this assignment, MADEP contributed to strengthening local capacity for coral reef rehabilitation, sustainable marine resource management, and community-based conservation in Selayar Regency.
